Parliament President Zoe Konstantopoulou on Wednesday characterized the BoG’s yearly report on the country’s fiscal policy as “unacceptable”, and… returned it to sender, blaming BoG Gov. Yannis Stournaras — the former FinMin — for the report.
From the chairwoman’s seat on the slightly Orwellian-sounding Truth Committee on Public Debt, Konstantopoulou blamed the central banker over what she called an “unfettered interventionism” towards the committee and stated that “Mr. Stournaras tried to sneak in the report in a way that doesn’t follow protocol, while the Truth Committee was presenting its primary findings”.
She added that “Mr. Stournaras has contributed to the fiscal, memorandum-based policy and has overstepped his position when presidential elections were underway. He now tries, in a non-democratic way, to prevent the ultimate debt write-off claims of the government”.
