The woman accused of involvement in the fatal 2010 arson attack on a Marfin Bank branch in central Athens, in which three employees died, has been arrested in Britain after Greek authorities issued an Interpol Red Notice against her.

It is recalled that, when her two 42-year-old co-accused were arrested, the woman is reported to have contacted Greek authorities of her own accord, stating that she was in the United Kingdom, was not in hiding, maintained her innocence and wished to return to Greece immediately to give a statement.

She had specifically telephoned the relevant department of the Hellenic Police, saying that she was not in hiding and wanted to appear before the Greek authorities to explain her position in the case.

She subsequently also contacted her lawyer, who represents both 42-year-old defendants, informing her of her intention to return to Greece without delay. The woman has lived permanently in Brighton for the past six years and is the mother of two children.

Despite this, Greek authorities proceeded to activate an international search for her through an Interpol Red Notice, resulting in her being located, arrested and placed in custody by British authorities.

The relevant proceedings for her extradition to Greece are now expected to be underway, so that she can be brought before the investigating judge and respond to the charges she faces.
