Sun-starved Norwegians flock to Greece, unafraid of the crisis

The Brits have turned to the River Thames, but Norwegians are willing to take a risk and visit crisis-plagued Greece

The British tourists may have been scared off by negotiations taking place between Greece and its international creditors, but the same is not true of sun-starved Norwegians. They are flocking to Greece like never before. 275,000 charter tourists have decided to support Greek tourism and risk economic meltdown. In fact four out of every 10 Norwegians on a package holiday decided to go to Greece.

“We’ve seen enormous demand,” said Tonje Fossum of Ving when speaking with NRK. “It seems like the weather in Norway scares Norwegians more than any Greek unrest.” Norwegian tourists have already paid for hotels, meals and rental cars upfront.
