The Athens Prosecutor’s Office today brought serious criminal charges against the two doctors, Ilias Theodoropoulos and Ioanna Gaka, whom Giorgos Mazonakis had visited, for exposure resulting in death as co-perpetrators, an offense classified as a felony under Greek law.

Following the charges, the two defendants are being brought before an investigating judge. They are expected to request and receive additional time to prepare their defense statements in the case.

Earlier, the two arrested doctors, wearing handcuffs, were transferred from the Kypseli Police Station to the judicial authorities to appear before the prosecutor.

Their arrival at Evelpidon

The evidence gathered by the Athens Security Directorate appears to have raised serious questions both about what happened in the final hours before the singer collapsed and about the operation of the medical office in Kolonaki.

So far, key elements of the investigation include witness statements, security camera footage, data from the plasmapheresis machine, and questions surrounding the licensing of the equipment.

The arrests of the two doctors followed an hours-long search of the medical office at 11 Karneadou Street, where police officers had been present since early Thursday morning, September 10.

Authorities collected a large volume of documents and digital evidence, including computers, hard drives and other electronic storage devices, as well as records and medical preparations found at the premises.

Cause of the singer’s cardiac arrest remains undetermined

Meanwhile, the cause of Giorgos Mazonakis’ death remains undetermined, according to the initial assessment by the forensic pathologists who examined the singer’s body.

As protothema.gr reported earlier, the forensic examination did not reach a clear conclusion regarding the cause of his death. The results of toxicological and histological tests are expected to provide further answers.
