Ankara is escalating its provocations over the Aegean. On Friday, the Turkish Air Force carried out 10 violations of Greek airspace and 10 violations of air traffic regulations within the Athens FIR.
A total of nine Turkish aircraft flew over the northeastern, central and southeastern Aegean: six F-16 fighter jets, four of which were armed, and three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
On two occasions, the Turkish aircraft’s activity developed into engagements with Greek fighter aircraft responding to the incursions. It should be noted that all violations of Greek national airspace were carried out by the Turkish F-16s.
According to an announcement by the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA), the Turkish aircraft were identified and intercepted in accordance with international rules and established procedures.
