The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held separate meetings today with Citi CEO Jane Fraser and Bank of America President for International Bernard Mensah, as well as with senior executives of the two financial institutions, who expressed their particular appreciation for the achievements of the Greek economy and Greece more broadly.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the prudent fiscal policy, which remains an absolute priority, continues to form the basis for achieving primary surpluses, allowing for the rapid reduction of debt. The benefits of this policy are clearly evident, he stressed, as Greek bond prices have been relatively less affected by the recent crisis, while it is particularly noteworthy that the country’s borrowing costs are now lower than those of four G7 countries (the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Italy).
The discussions also focused particularly on the challenges facing the energy market, as well as on the initiatives undertaken by the Greek Government at European level to limit the increase in fuel prices, and particularly heating oil prices, for the end consumer.
Investments in Greece in renewable energy sources, industry, as well as the development of data centers were also discussed, with emphasis on the recently announced partnership between PPC and Amazon Web Services. Particular emphasis was also placed on the increasing use of AI in public administration, with the aim of improving its functionality in citizens’ interactions with public services.
