The Greek PM, Alexis Tsipras Greece received a ‘grilling’ during his presence at the European Parliament across the political board on Wednesday. One of his staunchest and harshest critics was conservative German MEP Manfred Weber, head of the People’s Party. Tsipras brought up the solidarity the European people displayed to Germany after WW2, in response to Weber’s reference to loans to Greece being a form of solidarity. The New York Times, in a tweet showing the signing of the 1953 London Debt Agreement, when the Allies, including the devastated Greece, had forgiven nearly 60 per cent of the German debt, pointed to the hypocrisy of the current German government on the matter of Greece’s debt relief, something Tsipras has been pushing for all from day one. The other side of the pond is becoming more aware of the Greek arguments it seems.
