The Saudi-led military coalition fighting Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels said it had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched towards the kingdom’s capital, Riyadh, on Sunday.
The coalition, which has been fighting Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement, commonly known as the Houthis after the family of its leaders, confirmed that Saudi air defences had successfully intercepted the missile.

“Air defences intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the terrorist Houthi militia towards Riyadh,” coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki said in a statement posted on X.
Earlier, an AFP journalist reported hearing three explosions in the Saudi capital.
Residents received emergency alerts on their mobile phones warning of an “aerial threat” and urging them to seek shelter in safe locations.
The alert was lifted several minutes later.
Early this morning a post on X reported:
“Saudi Air Force reportedly hits a major Houthi missile depot in Sana’a with a BLU-109 bunker buster.
Massive explosion. Facility collapsed.
This comes as Saudi-led strikes continue across the Houthi-controlled capital, with Houthi media reporting casualties from other raids.
Houthis have been launching missiles toward Saudi cities. Coalition claims interceptions.
One precision strike on hardened missile infrastructure could shift the tempo.”
