After a difficult summer of tough negotiations and the imposition of capital controls on the country’s banks, Greeks are off to enjoy their summer vacations despite their troubles and an uncertain future that lies ahead. The first wave to exit was noted on Saturday, the first weekend of August. Ships left the ports of Piraeus and Rafina 100% full.

27 ferry routes departed from Piraeus on Friday carrying 27,912 passengers, 5,039 passenger cars and 897 motorbikes – an increase to last year.

High temperatures and a heatwave plaguing the country called people to take a deep breath and escape from the scorching city, putting aside concerns to what September will bring. Despite cutbacks and VAT increases, Greek families decided to gather money for a get away to come back stronger and deal with the harsh months ahead.
