Greek Labor Minister George Katrougalos met with a delegation of the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), the Communist Party of Greece (KKE)-affiliated trade union. Sources at the meeting on Wednesday state that Katrougalos refered to the government’s plans for the unification of rules for main and auxiliary pensions as well as pension cuts for those whose pensions are over 1,000 euros per month.

Plans for pension unification are nothing new with speculation concerning such a move since 2013. Sources at Greek daily Eleftheros Typos state that a unification plan has already been drawn by the Ministry of Labor that includes unification of funds and the merging of pensions that may be implemented in 2016 if necessary.

Greece’s daily newspaper, Kathimerini, points to the ministers plans of a new tax system for pensions to ensure that the basic rate is above the poverty level.
