The Trivago booking website recorded rising prices for Mykonos hotels with the average online room rate above 500 euros per night for August, surpassing the prices of luxury hotels in Monte Carlo (470 euros per night). Santorini hotels are not much better with prices averaging 412 euros per night.
The average room rate across Greece is at 160 euros per night – almost the same as August 2014. Greek room rates are the fourth-highest average online rate among the 24 European countries listed on Trivago’s chart with Switzerland topping the chart at 259 euros, followed by the UK and Croatia.
Athenian hotels noted a 25.6% increase, standing at 113 euros per night for August. Despite demand, the cost of accomodation is still less than rival European city destinations such as Barcelona (153 euros), Rome (120 euros) and Instanbul (118 euros).
