Koutala means ‘wooden spoon’ in Greek and it is feared around the world by Greeks everywhere is it has traditionally been the weapon of swords by Greek yiayiades (grandmothers) and mothers!
There’s even a Facebook community for recovering wooden spoon victims titled “The Koutala Broke on My Ass and It’s My Fault?”.
