Arrests of University bldg occupiers reported

Self-styled “anti-state” activists occupied the building to press demands for the abolition of maximum security prisons, amongst others

Police made a total of 10 arrests outside the occupied neo-classical building (Propylea) in central Athens housing the University of Athens’ administration.

According to reports, three arrests took place on Monday and another seven on Tuesday, with authorities reportedly nabbing anyone coming out of the still occupied building.

In a spate of actions over the past week, including takeovers of a radio station and provincial TV station, self-styled “anti-state” activists occupied the building to press their demand for the abolition of maximum security prisons in the country and in solidarity to a handful of hunger-striking prisoners convicted or remanded in custody on various terrorism-related charges.
