ATMs in Spain dispense drachmas!

Artist stunt

The streets of Madrid in Spain were suddenly filled with Greek drachmas! No, don’t worry… SYRIZA’s Left Platform did not enter Spanish politics…A group of Spanish artists were the ‘culprits’ wanting to demonstrate their solidarity and support to the Greek people’s ‘No’ vote during the July 5 referendum. Under the cover of night and in just 2 hours the politically active group of artists, called Luzinterruptus changed the appearance of 7 ATMs by fitting a glass container in front of them and filling the container with ‘No’ ballots from the Greek referendum. The glass containers were ‘spitting out’ drachmas onto the streets that were visible by a special lighting incorporated in the ATMs. “We wanted to highlight the possibility of Greek ATMs dispensing their own currency”, said the artists to the Spanish media.
