Berlin: Greece must stay within program if it wants support

Berlin expecting a Greek plan that is ‘valid’

If Greece wants support it will have to stay within a bailout program, according to Wolfgang Schaeuble’s spokesman, Martin Jager.

Berlin again raised the “political thermomter” on the continent shortly before Greek FinMin Yanis Varoufakis was to meet with his German counterpart.

The Chancellery reiterated that Germans are expecting a Greek plan that is valid, while clarifying that the stance of the country towards the Athens remains unchanged.

Indicative of the climate in Berlin is that Greece was not even discussed during today’s chancellery meeting.

Shortly after the meeting Angela Merkel had with her Maltese counterpart, she underlined that Germany must remain stable in its policies and that Greece must remain in the eurozone. She added that she sees no difference between her views and the views of other country-members of the eurozone.

She also stated that she cannot wait to meet with Alexis Tsipras during the upcoming EU Summit.
