Beyond the Raids: A day in the life of a Viking (video)

Back home these brutal warriors had keep up a certain standard of living

Newsroom April 20 04:00

What was life like for the average Viking? Was it really all epic sea voyages and brutal raiding parties? Not quite! Back home these brutal warriors had keep up a certain standard of living. What was it like to be a Viking? It could be shockingly mundane.

If you were a man, you’d spend your time farming by day (with your slaves), spending your nights in one big room with your entire family (including the farm animals). If you were lucky the local chieftain might host a grand feast full of delicious meats and strong honey mead. If you were a woman, it was your job to keep the domestic side running smoothly.
