Black Sea: “Cold War” incident involving Russian Jet and U.S. warship

Russian jet fighter made multiple passes near “USS Donald Cook”

While tempers flare in eastern Ukraine, the US publicized an incident which took place in the Black Sea region on Saturday, skyrocketing tensions in the region.

Specifically, according to a US military official’s statement to the Associated Press, a russian jet fighter made multiple passes near a US warship, an incident which lasted more than 90 minutes.

The incident is reminiscent of the Cold War period and confirms the horrendous period that Moscow and Washington D.C.’s diplomatic relations are going through.

The incident, however, ender without any further implications, while the Russian jet, seemed -according to the US official- to not be armed. The fact, though, that it was flying 150 meters over sea level and around 1 kilometer away cruiser “USS Donald Cook”, forced the US ship to carry out repeated warnings.

The American ship has been in the Black Sea since the 10th of April, patrolling international waters, east of Romania.
