In the electoral arena: New Democracy party announces its candidates for European elections

New Democracy will take full advantage of the current disputes of SYRIZA members and mainly the party’s minority that wants Greece return to drachma currency

Today New Democracy party enters officially the European elections race with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras announcing the candidates for the European elections.

The Prime Minister will outline the party’s goal which is winning in European elections and try to create an optimistic and combative atmosphere for his party while lashing out against the opposition party.

The leader of New Democracy will project the success of economic policy and the hope for growth and development whereas he will try to diminish SYRIZA by referring to it as the party which will bring Greece back to the crisis era.

He will make the most of the current disputes of SYRIZA party and especially the party’s minority that wants Greece return to drachma currency.

New Democracy will take advantage of the distribution of the social dividend while it expects the statement on the sustainability of Greek debt by the Eurogroup on May 5. The government will attempt to show that the positive results of economic policy are not only aggregates but that the benefits are already provided to society. Mr Samaras will continue providing such “gifts” to various social categories.

Last week he announced the adjustement of VAT debt and yesterday he announced a social welfare program for the homeless of approximately 20 million. Other targeted actions are expected to be performed by New Democracy in the view of elections in order to gain votes and improve the social image of the Prime Minister.
However, these tactics of New Democracy party causes reactions in government partner. PASOK, didn’t hide yesterday its displeasure regarding Prime Minister’s announcements for the homeless care center.
