Brave Nepalese doctor refused to leave the operating room during the earthquake

He and his staff managed to rescue two lives that day

33 year-old Dr. Ram Prasad Sapkota was in the Prasuti Griha hospital in Kathmandu. He faced a challenge that very few in his line of work can claim to have experienced. He was operating on a very difficult birth, when the 7.8 Richter earthquake struck Nepal.

The doctor later stated that he didn’t even consider abandoning the pregnant woman who was suffering from serious bleeding. Both he and his medical staff stayed put while the earthquake raged, and managed to help the woman give birth to her baby, which weighed in at five kilos!

Even though the hospital was shaking hard enough for some operating tools to fall to the floor, the 33 year-old doctor and his staff managed to save the life of both the birthing woman and the baby.
