Brussels Group teleconference meeting sets thematic units agenda

Money could be disbursed to Greece in installments every time a thematic unit ends

A teleconference meeting took place on Greek Holy Saturday between Greek Finance Ministry officials and the Brussels Group. Sources state that the meeting focused on the agenda of talks for Greece to take place in thematic units (e.g. social security, taxation, etc.) as had been decided during a meeting between Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chief Christine Lagarde in Washington D.C. as well as during the recent Euro Working Group.

The decision to hold thematic units of discussion is hoped to simplify talks and lead to a portional opening of tranche installments every time a chapter is agreed upon and closed.

It is hoped that an agreement between Greece and its eurozone partners can be reached at the Eurogroup meeting on April 24. Sources however state that the negotiation and agreement could come a few days after April 24 as there is leeway until the end of April for a deal to take place.
