Cave tombs of the Hellenistic period were discovered in Lemesos!

An excavator operator working in a field brought to light the tombs

An important archaeological find was discovered by an excavator operator who was working in a field in Agios Silas on western outskirts of Lemesos.

According to the first estimations of the Department of Antiquities, the tombs are dated back to Hellenistic period, around 300 BC, and contain remains, vases and other vessels. Seven skeletons were found in one of the tombs.

The excavator hit on the roof of the cave, part of which collapsed exposing the graves.

Archaeologists are currently working on the excavation of the graves and the ransfer of their contents.
