Covid-19 pass to be scrapped before Easter in Greece

It could be reintroduced if needed

The assistant professor of Epidemiology and member of the committee of experts on Covid-19, Gikas Magiorkinis, said that it is a matter of weeks before the abolition of the coronavirus vaccination certificate.

Speaking to public broadcaster ERT, he said that the vaccination certificate will be scrapped by Easter, saying that “it will happen in the next one to two months. Maybe on Holy Week, we will not have a Green pass.”

As he explained: “Since the pressure on the public health system diminishes, there is no reason to use it.”

He added, however, that a possible increase in hospitalisations could mean the pass will return. “Models predict that we will probably have pressure on the Health System again in October.”

He noted that Greece was far from recording zero cases adding that “The virus will not stop spreading even in the summer, but will be at a much more manageable level.”
