The new provisions for employees in the private and public sectors in relation to Covid-19 self-test kits will take effect from today, Monday.

The self-testing.gov.gr platform for employees to use is open and the implementation of the measure in the first week will be on a pilot basis, however, the employees in the private and public sector will be able to attend their work only with a negative test.

In the private sector, testing should be done by those engaged in retail (including supermarkets and food and beverage outlets), in catering, in transportation (land, sea, air), cleaning services, hairdressers, barbershops, beauty salons, but also in gambling service stores and betting services.

In the public sector, the employees of the Citizens’ Service Centres (KEP), the Local Government Organisations of the First Degree employed in the “Home Care” program, the employees of the cleaning services, the court clerks, and the court employees will be obligated to take a mandatory self-test.

The self-diagnosis tests will be done once a week, while those who fail to do so will face hefty fines. The employer will be required to pay 1500 euros per employee in case he is employed with a positive test and 500 euros per employee if he is employed without having declared the result of the self-test.
