The Cypriot Minister of Interior, Socrates Chasikos, assured that Cyprus has the necessary infrastructure and business plans ready for hosting European citizens or citizens of third countries who will leave Gaza or Syria because of the ongoing crisis.

Mr. Chasikos stated that that these people will be temporarily hosted since Cyprus can only act as a transit station.

Asked whether there is information on population movements due to the conflict in Middle East, Mr. Chasikos replied negatively.

As for the possibility to request assistance from the European Union, the Minister of Interior explained that this is a European project in which all Member States participate.
