“Democracy sweeps away every coup attempt”, Beleris says from prison after his election

In his message, the elected mayor of Himara thanked the Greeks & promised hard work as an MEP

Newsroom June 10 08:24

The indigenous Ethnic Greek Minority of Albania is celebrating as the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleris, came 3rd with the New Democracy ballot in the 2024 European elections.

Fredi Beleris himself, from prison, sent his own message about his victory:

“All these months I was strengthened by my belief that light defeats darkness and that the power of democracy can sweep away any coup d’état, as long as there is will and faith in a higher purpose. We fought for democracy, the rule of law and the freedoms and dignity of citizens.

The fight was given in adverse conditions, unimaginable for a country that wants to become a member of the European family, and it was won, thanks to the honor and pride of the Greeks.

I want to thank the Greek men and women who honored me with their vote, my family who was my support and voice, the friends throughout Greece who stood by my side in the most difficult test of my life. And of course Kyriakos Mitsotakis who gave me the opportunity to be a candidate, for which I will always be grateful.
