ELSTAT: Greek unemployment rate at 27.2% in May

Greek unemployment rate was 27.2% in May 2014, down from 27.3% in April 2014 and 27.7% in May 2013.

According to an announcement issued today by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), Greek unemployment rate was 27.2% in May 2014, down from 27.3% in April 2014 and 27.7% in May 2013.

Based on the same data, the number of unemployed people reached 1,309,213, while Greece’s financially non-active population totaled 3,328,067.

The report of the Hellenic Statistical Authority said that the number of unemployed people fell by 7,468 in May compared with May 2013 (a decline of 2.0%) and increased by 22,291 compared with April 2014 (an increase of 0.6%).

Greece’s financially non-active population was down by 1,155 compared with May 2013. The unemployment rate among women was 31.1% in May, down from 31.6% in May 2013, while the rate among men fell to 24.2% from 24.8% over the same periods, respectively.
