Energy Minister meets Austrian Ambassador for UK nuclear power plant construction

He expressed the Greek government’s opposition for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in the United Kingdom

Environment and Energy Minister Panos Skourletis met with Austrian Ambassador in Athens Andrea Ikić-Böhm on Monday and expressed the Greek government’s opposition for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in the United Kingdom while mentioning that Greece is in favour of restricting and eliminating the use of nuclear power.

Mr. Skourletis was briefed on the actions taken by Austria’s government to challenge the plans for the construction of a new nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point in the UK, estimating that the prices guaranteed for its power over the next 35 years are a form of state subsidy and lead to distortion of the electricity market.
