Evidence shows arrested for blackmailing aimed to control media

The accused men had managed to take large amount of money from advertisements

The three arrested who are accused of blackmailing public organizations, companies and banks are facing charges of embezzling Greek state and a life sentence in prison. They will appear in front of the prosecutor on Friday to defend themselves.

The information collected and included in the case bring to light shocking information on the way the arrested men acted.

The accused men were first writing negative articles about the companies and then they were blackmailing them and asking to pay advertising money so as to write positive articles.

As the executive of Greece’s water utility EYDAP, Amalia Katzou, who filed a complaint, said the men did not hesitate to threaten her and her family in order to achieve their aim.

The police seized from Acropolis newspaper headquarters folders with many documents that included amount of money and various handwritten notes. One of them says: ‘I have (a) 341,000 euros, (b) 300,000 euros, (c) 282, 434 euros and total 822,3396 euros”.

According to the evidence, the accused men had managed to take large amount of money from advertisements.

Moreover, Mr. Katzou claimed that in a meeting she had with the accused they told her: “Moussas and his friends will form a team which will control the media so as there will be no negative articles for Pappas and SYRIZA government in general”.

“Moussas stressed that K. Karamanlis referring to former prime minister had agreed with Tsipras that they will never let Kyriakos Mitsotakis become prime minister” she added.
