The police have arrested the perpetrators, found the stolen items, and is now investigating their involvement in other crimes

A three-membered family of a well-known businessman from the hairdressing sector were struck by robbars at their home in Kypseli. The family’s 74-year-old father was abducted and kept hostage for two hours, tortured until he gave the code for his home safe with jewelry and money inside.

The businessman, now a pensioner, was approached by five men believed to be from eastern-bloc countries. They pushed him into a van and used violence to make him tell them the code to a safety deposit box in his home. They then drove to his home and continued to torture his wife and son.

They finally opened the box using various chemicals and left.

The police managed to find the perpetrators of the crime at Nikaia, Piraeus, and Athens center.

Despite the capture of the assailants, the family continues to be in a state of shock.

The police report:

The police arrested a foreigner from Russia and four nationals from Kazakhstan and of Ukrainian descent on 14-5-2015, aged from 25 to 47 years, members of a conspiracy.

They were arrested according to the penal code for participation in a crime ring, abduction, robbery and in violation of the Law on arms.

Specifically, the investigation showed that the 74-year-old left his home from Kypseli to take his dog for a walk in the early hours of 14-5-2015 when men wearing full-face hoods approached him. Three of the assailants forced him onto a van-styled vehicle in which another accomplice was waiting.

They finally extracted money from his person as well as personal items and documents whereas they tried to make him reveal the code of his home safety box, but did not manage to extract this information.

They later parked at the open garage of the home of the 74-year-old man and three of the assailants entered using his keys. They used violence, faces covered, to immobilize his 70-year-old wife and their 39-year-old son and tried to get the safety deposit box number, without results. They finally  used oxygen to open the device and took money, jewels and gold and silver coins from inside.

Consequently, they entered the car (van) and left Patissia and the injured 74-year-old man.

In their possession, following an investigation into their home, the following was found and confiscated:

A monetary amount worth 1,625 euros

A money transfer dated 14-5-2015 for the amount of 2,000 euros

A number of weapons used for burglaries

Five cell phones

Two plaques of gold and silver were found that were comprised of the melted coins and jewels stolen
