Fifteen Indians were blinded after free cataract surgery

They all underwent surgery with medical equipment that had not been sterilized

Immediately after joining a non-governmental organization medical program in northern India, fifteen people were blinded after free cataract surgery.

A total 62 people undertook surgery on the 4th of November and as local authorities revealed all surgeries took place in a makeshift medical center with non sterile equipment.

Authorities are still  trying to establish the exact number of people who lost their sight, as well as the state of the remaining patients, while a criminal investigation has been initiated against the NGO Guru Nanak Charitable Hospital and doctors who did the surgery, since they had not have permission from the health authorities.
