German politician: If Greece seizes German assets, we will not take this lying down

In response to the Greek Justice Minister’s statements

German conservative politician Hans Michelbach commented today on the statements Greek Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos made yesterday on the issue of WWII reparations that Greece demands from Germany.

Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos said yesterday during his speech in the parliament that he is willing to sign the Supreme Court’s decision to confiscate German state real estate in Greece, in order to compensate the relatives of Nazi war crimes.

In response to these statements, Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) member Hans Michelbach underlined that, if violations of German property were to occur, Germany would not take this lying down.

“This issue has been closed since the 50s,” Michelbach told the German paper Handelsblatt.
