Google’s new app helps refugees in Greece

It is currently live on Lesvos island

When refugees travel across different countries, they’re confronted with languages they don’t speak, which can make it even more difficult to know where to turn to access the most basic needs, Google mentions to its blog.

Therefore, the company has built a mobile-friendly site that includes locations for registration, lodging and medical facilities listing also emergency contacts and currency exchange rates.

Google worked with the International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps and developed an open source project called “Crisis Info Hub” to disseminate such information

The open source project enables others to add essential information via Google Docs. It is currently live on the Greek island of Lesvos and will soon become available in other locations, too.

Also, since many Arabic-speaking refugees travel to Germany, Google has updated its Translate service to help users to understand English and German signs and documents even when they’re offline.
