Greece reports 54 Omicron cases

The president of EODY said it was less severe than Delta

The cases of the Omicron variant in Greece reached 54, according to the president of EODY Theoklis Zaoutis. Speaking to ANT1, the president of EODY stated that the suspected cases of the Omicron variant stood at 154.

He added that on New Year’s Eve we will have a peak of cases of Omicron and added that this is twice as contagious as the Delta variant which was more contagious than the first coronavirus. He further added that it is possible to see a larger number of cases than has been recorded to date.

According to Mr. Zaoutis, Omicron is a milder disease and leads to a lower treatment rate for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people. However, it remains a serious threat to the unvaccinated.

As he pointed out on Monday, an extraordinary meeting will be held where it will be discussed if more measures are needed and he added that if someone has come in contact with an Omicron case, he should avoid gatherings, wear a mask everywhere and keep his distance.

The first package of measures to limit the spread of the Omicron mutation came into force at 6 in the morning. The new JMC has already been published in the Official Gazette with the new measures that will be valid until January 3.
