Greek expat Droudi hostage-taker’s wife, in custody

Pending a trial

A Sydney court, today, decided to take the wife of Man Haron Monis, the hostage-taker, into custody. This is Greek-origin Amira Droudi ( former Anastasia Droudi), who embraced Islam and has been the companion of the Iranian cleric for the recent years.

Amira Droudi is accused of murdering Monis’ ex-wife. According to the indictment, Droudi stabbed and burned the unfortunate woman on orders by Monis. They were able to convince court, however, and they were not imprisoned. Amira Droudi paid $100,000 bail and was required to appear regularly at a police station.

After the hostage situation last week, which became the focus of news worldwide and shook the world, the Minister of Justice requested that Droudi’s case be reexamined. The court, studying all new data, found that Droudi is an “unacceptable risk” to the community and ordered her pre-trial detention until the 22nd of February where she will face justice once more. Among other things, some videos from 2009 were examined, where Droudi seems to have expressed her support of Monis’ views as well as the 9/11 attacks in New York’s World Trade Center.

Judge Henson, however, stated that the video has nothing to do with her current custody.
