Devastating effects of wildfires

Greek PM Alexis Tspiras has arrived on the island of Thasos to inspect the situation and see the catastrophic effects of the wildfire that has ravages forests and farmlands for the past past 3 days. Tsipras arrived a little before 11 am on Monday morning in a military Chinook helicopter. Thanks to the intense land and air efforts overnight the wildfire fronts have been contained from spreading to the villages of Rachoni, Prinos and Maria, but not before thousands of acres of forrest and tens of houses were destroyed in the settlements of Mikro and Megalo Kazaviti. According to the fire department, all the fronts have dwindled eased down. The Mayor of Thasos decided to postpone the opening of the new school season until conditions have normalised.
