The French and the Greek people have a long-standing mutual respect for one another. This relationship, despite its ups and down, is embedded in the psyche of the two countries. It surfaced again recently when French technocrats offered their expertise to the Greek government to draw up a last minute set of proposals to help the Greeks avert a disorderly exit from the Eurozone. This move even strained the Franco-German relations according to reports. The ordinary Greeks seem to have appreciated these efforts by the French and are showing their gratitude by sending all kinds of gifts to the French Embassy in Athens as a token of appreciation. As the French Ambassador Jean-Loup Kuhn-Delforge said they have been receiving many letters of thanks, flowers, phone calls etc. “One grandmother even sent us a small porcelain item telling us to send to President Hollande himself”, he said.
