Is Tony Abbott about to lose his seat?

The Australian PM’s future is less than secure

Tony Abbott is standing on “shaky” ground, according to the Australian press. According to publications, Mr. Abbott is losing political ground every day, including from supporters within his own party. The local press states that Mr. Abbott needs to change his course, as it is now a matter of his own political survival.

This is the reasoning behind the Australian Prime Minister’s latest public statement to his own to not “deviate from the plan” and to not remove an active Prime Minister, something which the Labor party did in the past.

He admitted that he could not “sell” (promote) the changes he was envisioning towards healthcare, but underlined that the alternative proposed by the opposition would certainly lead to a fiscal crisis. He characterized a potential change in leadership as “political death” and made a call towards all of his supporters, inter and intra-party to judge the government from its successes.

Mr. Abbott clarified that his government was able to get rid of the CO2 tax, turn back the tide of illegal migrant ships, and build roads. He reiterated that the previous government squandered billions, endangered foreign relations and sparked the illegal immigration issue. He supported that his current government’s problem was only certain problems with the Senate.
