The moment she appeared on the set of the singing talent show The Voice, broadcasted by Rai Due the audience was struck not only by her amazing voice but also by her appearance…
Italy’s singing nun, Cristina Scuccia, won The Voice of Italy after becoming a global sensation performing covers of famous songs starting from March and was awarded a record contract with Universal.
But who is really the 25 year old nun that became the toast of Italy?
Born in Ragusa, Sicily, Christina loved to sing and realized very early, at the age of 14, that she couldn’t live without singing. In fact, it was singing that led her to God, according to her. “After Confirmation, I distanced myself from the church and I was angry with God. All I cared about is attending the conservatory, studying at the Academy of Performing Arts and playing at weddings with my band,” said Cristina Scuccia.
At the time, she was working as a cashier at a local supermarket and had a boyfriend. However, later she decided to return to the Church, leave it all behind and become a nun.
How was her huge success received by her fellow citizens and her ex- boyfriend? On the night of the final they all gathered in the square of her home city and watched the show on a big screen, especially installed for this purpose. When the presenter announced that she was the winner of The Voice, everyone broke into applause and cheers.
Among them was the young nun’s ex-boyfriend, who said in an interview that they were a couple at a younger age, without revealing many details of their relationship.
The young nun’s relatives also refused to disclose details about Cristina’s past. According to the website gossippiu.com they reacted angrily to journalists’ questions.
“Get out of here before I set the dogs on you. That’s enough, we are exhausted. Journalists from all over the world are calling. Christina just wants to sing,” said a relative of the 25 year old woman.
Indeed, Cristina only wants to sing and is not willing to abandon the Church for the prospect of a record.
