Magnitude 5.3 earthquake at Greek isle of Karpathos

Karpathos is the second largest of the Greek Dodecanese islands, in the southeastern Aegean Sea.

An earthquake struck the Dodecanese island shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 26. The earthquake is estimated to be at 5.2 on the magnitude scale according to the Greek geodynamic institute, though the Euro-Mediterranean Institute places it at 5.4.

The focal point is 32 km east, osutheast of Karpathos and is of 10 km depth.

Damage is superficial, and it is unknown whether there were any injuries.
