Marysville school shooting: The gunman was only 15 years old

Jaylen Ray Fryberg, 15, opened fire against his friends in the school cafeteria before turning the gun on himself

The gunman who opened fire against his friends in the school cafeteria of Marysville-Pilchuck High School on Friday, killing one of his classmates and wounding four others before committing suicide was only 15 years old.

Witnesses said that young Jaylen Fryberg entered the school cafeteria at around 10.40am local time and opened fire at close range. According to an eye witness, a student named Jordan Lutton, Fryberg approached a table with students and calmly started shooting.

“He came up from behind … and fired about six bullets into the backs of them,” Luton told CNN. “They were his friends, so it wasn’t just random.”

The gunman then turned the gun on himself and died at the scene.

According to the authorities, the incident resulted in the death of two people – the gunman and a female student – and four injuries. The two girls and two boys who were injured are currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit.

Jaylen Fryberg was a popular kid at his school, and he was described by his fellow classmates as well liked and athletic. In fact, just a week before the incident, he was named Homecoming Prince during the school team’s homecoming game.
