The first official statement on behalf of the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government was made by Interior Minister Nikos Voutsis, a close co-worker of Prime Minister Alexis Statement. He said that 41 years after the last referendum, the government organized the referendum in just under a week.

He thanked everyone for their effort in the democratic effort whose tone was set by millions of citizens in the country with over 50% showing up – to be legally valid the threshold is 40%.

Voutsis said that the good official indication of the results would be given by 9pm local time.
