Solar Dynamics Observatory released an impressive video that shows the sun producing solar flares from 25 until 26 August. An increased activity was recorded in the Sun resulting in a number of M-class flares taking place.
An M-Class flare is considered to be a mid-level solar eruption. M-class flares are about 10 times weaker than X-class flares, the most powerful storms on the sun.
“Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation,” NASA spokeswoman Karen Fox said adding “Harmful radiation from a flare cannot pass through Earth’s atmosphere to physically affect humans on the ground, however — when intense enough — they can disturb the atmosphere in the layer where GPS and communications signals travel.”
