ND elections lead to Meimarakis-Mitsotakis on January 10

The elections proceeded normally with a huge voter turnout that surpassed all expectations

Vangelis Meimarakis rose as the clear winner of Sunday’s election for the leadership of the conservative main opposition New Democracy (ND) party, however, having failed to garner more than 50% of the vote, he has yet to secure the party’s reigns. The final results of Sunday’s showdown have yet to be announced, however Meimarakis and Kyriakos Mitsotakis are to take part in a second ballet on January 10 after the two men were said to be the final winners.

Mitsotakis made a speech thanking his voters on Sunday after making certain that he would be in the second ballot.

A clear winner from the elections was the New Democracy party at large with almost 400,000 party members showing up to vote, indicating that interest in the party has not waned.
