ND Meimarakis: SYRIZA-ANEL government 'owns' new deal

Greek government wasted six months

In an interview to Greek TV station Skai TV, leader of major opposition party New Democracy, Vangelis Meimarakis said his party would vote for the new measures agreed upon between the Greek government and its creditors Tuesday, even though he made it clear that the new deal ‘belonged’ to the Tsipras-Kammenos coalition government. Meimarakis underlined that the new agreement was ‘very painful and a extremely bad’, criticizing the SYRIZA-ANEL government for wasting 7 months in fruitless negotiations. He warned of the dangers in the event the deal was not voted in parliament, stressing it would lead to a disorderly default, a return to the drachma and a large fall in values and wages. Finally, he expressed his disagreement on the fact that the government is bringing the deal in two separate articles, claiming that if each article was voted separately improvements could be made.
