Niger protests result in 45 burnt churches, 5 dead, 128 wounded

Severe violence, protesting Charlie Hebdo’s last issue

Severely violent protests took place in Niger on Saturday, against the Charlie Hebdo’s latest Muhammad drawing. A total of 45 churches went up in flames in Niamey, Niger’s capital, according to Niger police.

 

A Police spokesman stated that 45 churches, five hotels, 36 bars, an orphanage and a Christian school were looted and set on fire.

 

Besides the five people who tragically lost their lives during the protests, 128 were wounded, while 189 people were arrested.
