Nigerian army frees over 200 women and children from the clutches of Boko Haram

More than 500 have been freed this past week alone

Nigerian authorities liberated 234 women and children held by Boko Haram jihadists in the northeastern parts of the country, according to a Nigerian armed forces announcement.

These hostages follow the liberation of 500 more hostages in the past few days.

The Nigerian army announced that they freed 160 hostages on Thursday, and 300 on Tuesday. According to Amnesty International, around 2,000 women have been kidnapped since 2014 by the islamists.

The women and female girls stated, after being liberated, that they had been made to do hard labor, were sexually assaulted and even made to fight in the front lines.
