Gov’t rushes ‘no flip flop’ defence on debt issue

According to the Maximos Mansion and its “Non paper” ”there are many technical ways for debt relief”

A circulated “non paper” — by the government itself – in tandem with an official statement by government spokesman Gabriel Sakellaridis that a SYRIZA government will not “flip flop” on the debt issue attempted to allay scrutiny on Tuesday of an “about face” in terms of policy.

The “non paper” made the following points, in telegraph fashion:

1. The government’s standing position is that the Greek debt is not sustainable, which is why relief is necessary for Greek society to raise its head and to allow real growth.

2. There are several technical methods that can be employed for debt relief. One of them is exactly what FinMin Varoufakis presented to City investors. So, “No flip flop” on the debt issue.

3. The end of the troika. Europe begins to accept the fact that the troika mechanism is coming to an end. Even the German government will not insist on continuing inspections by the troika and will try to impose continuation of “cooperation” with the IMF.

4. Society perceives the fact that this is the first time that the Greek government is actually negotiating with European lenders and the first time that Europe considers ending austerity.

5. Relief measures for society is at the top of the country’s agenda and issues like wages, pension cuts, closed hospitals and households without electricity follow.

6. On Tuesday Alexis Tsipras will attend a reception with members of the Solidarity Committee of SYRIZA at a Rome hotel.
