‘Opa’, a Greek folk dance show at Acropol Theatre

A Greek Folk Dance Show, from Apollo to Zorba the Greek

This summer, the Helios Dancers present at the AKROPOL Theatre a music and dance extravaganza.

Folk dances, adorned with theatrical acts, fabricate a unique super-show that takes us on a trip to all corners of Hellenism: from Asia Minor’s Olmaz to Macedonian Zaraka; from northern Thrace’s Troiro to Tirlanta from the Dodecanese or the Kalamatianos and Tsakonikos dances of Roumeli and Morias.

The official site of the project describes the concept of the show as follows: “Dance routines expressing both joy and sadness; moves inspired by love and war; steps produced by life itself. For us Greeks, dance –for the last 3000 years- represents more than physical movements. It is an expression of our soul, feelings and values: friendship, generosity, love of honor. These are the values flowing out of great Mikis Theodorakis’ score of Zorba and peaking in a single word from Academy award winner Anthony Quinn’s lips: Opa!”

Performances starting at 7 p.m. with tickets at 20 euros, 15 euros, 12 euros and 5 euros.
