Papoulias: I would like to be optimistic, but …

…we are still in a state of uncertainty, since there are significant outstanding issues in the negotiations” – We need to safeguard the country’s presence on the hard core of the European Union

Karolos Papoulias at his last New Year’s message as President of the Republic stated that: “ I would like to be optimistic, but the Greek society was gone tough some harsh times and a part of the society literally has been exterminated. There are still significant outstanding issues in the negotiations”.

Furthermore Mr. Papoulias  urged everyone “to stop playing the game of blame” and to focus their energy “on the formulation and implementation of a national reconstruction plan”.

Among other, the current President of the Republic stressed that “During this critical moment, the national interest should prevail over any parties interest” and added asked for  political consensus and consultation on major issues.
