Pensions to be granted based on income criteria

The Committee suggests uniform rules for contributions and benefits

Labour Minister Giorgos Katrougalos announced that the final bill will be submitted to the Parliament in November leaving open the possibility of imposing taxes on great wealth and new contributions to business activities to raise money for the insurance funds.

The Committee suggests uniform rules for contributions and benefits, while regarding contributions it was stressed that these would be below 26% for the next generations.

Mr. Katrougalos was in favor of uniform rules for replacement and contributions confirming that pensioners with lowest incomes will get a greater replacement of their pension than those with higher income.

In this way, it is confirmed pensions will be granted based on income criteria.

Mr. Katrougalos, though, said that he personally believes that pensions should be granted without income criteria.
